THE VIRTUAL LABORATORY REQUIREMENTS





END USER MACHINE

The user interacts with the VLab System by the VLab portal or the Scenario Submission Application, which is written in Java. Taking above into consideration, the machine should have the following configuration (minimal requirements):


Processor    Pentium 3 ~ 1 GHz
Memory    256 MB
Graphics    SVGA 1024x768
HDD    500 MB
Network    2 MB/s


    The following software has to be installed:
  • Java virtual machine, recommended Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition 1.5 or higher
  • Java WebStart 1.5 or higher (please note that starting from Java virtual machine 1.5 it is shipped as a part of a Java platform)
  • Internet Browser with Java service


VLAB SERVER

    The Vlab Server manages and runs all the VLab System modules and other software required by the modules. The software list is presented below:
  • Up to ten (10) VLab modules depending on the configuration
  • Java virtual machine, recommended Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition 1.5 or higher
  • Web Server (Jakarta Tomcat 4.1.29 or higher)
  • Jakarta Axis 1.1 or higher
  • Apache 1.3.29 Ben-SSL/1.55 (Unix)
  • PHP 4.3.8 or higher
  • MySQL 4.0.17 or higher
  • gSOAP 2.6.2 or higher (for the modules deployment only)

The minimal hardware requirements are presented below:

THIRD PARTY SYSTEMS


Data Management System

All the files are managed and stored in the Data Management System (DMS).
    The system software requirements are presented below:
  • Java virtual machine, recommended Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition 1.5 or higher.
  • Database server. DMS is ready to cooperate with Oracle and PostgreSQL engine:
    •   a) Oracle - Oracle8i or higher recommended
      b) PostgreSQL - version 7.3 or higher is required with the additional extends:
           - chkpass and tablefunc from contrib package
           - plpqsql support

And finally the minimal hardware requirements:
